age: 57 years young
height/weight: 5’6” on a good day / ~140 lbs. give or take a few
golf history: 35 years off and on
handicap: not exactly sure… best calculation 12 to 14 …. average score: mid-80s
irons: Mizuno MP-32 / NS pro 950 GH shaft (98 gram Stiff)
Or old (about 1975) Mizuno Johnny Miller blades – very strong lofts (7 iron = 38 degrees)
driver: Callaway Big Bertha Epic Sub-Zero (custom shaft)
Or just as often: TaylorMade SLDR Mini Driver (12°), stock shaft – S flex
I have too many to list. And if I use a driver, I pick one depending on my mood.
fairway woods/utilities: Taylor Made 2007 Burner series
3w (14.5°) / 5w (17.5°) / 3u (19°) / 4u (22°) / 5u (25°) – club selection based on the course I play
wedges: Mizuno MP-T5 51° / 55° / 60° – usually all 3 in the bag
putter: you can’t beat old…. TaylorMade Rossa Inza or Rossa Mezza
※ stats: all the following are at or after the age of 50 ※
best score: 78
fastest recorded driver head speed: 51.1 m/s …. 114.3 mph
longest lucky drive: super carry with wind… got a great roll…320 yards
(have a few more around 300 +- a few yards….
best hole/shot (in my opinion): short 505 yard par 5 … on in 2 … 6 foot putt for eagle
(Kagamino – 18th hole Okutsu Golf Course)
2nd best hole/shot: 330 yard par 4… 75 degree dog-leg right… can’t see the green from the tee… took a chance, and the short-cut… carried the ravine/trees… on in 1
funnest hole: 523 yard par 5 in the moonlit dark. couldn’t see the ball come off the club face…could only feel where the ball went. on in 3… 2 putt for par.
worst part of my game: bunkers… definitely bunkers
At my age, I try too hard. It’s tough not to when teaching and playing with kids.
worst club: 3-wood off the deck – my 5-wood goes just as far. Tee it up, however…
natural swing path: I tend to hit it straight, or fade when I add power. Being so short, the inside out draw swing with longer clubs gets really flat and has to be perfect to hit the ball square.
hole in one: not yet
